Frequently Asked Dental Questions

Have a question about Cochell Family Dentistry or even dentistry in general? We’re happy to be your local source for all things dental-related! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive every day. If you have any other questions that we haven’t addressed here, be sure to give us a call today.

How often should my family get checkups and cleanings?

Dr. Christel Cochell, as well as the American Dental Association, recommends that patients of all ages should have at least two checkups and cleanings each year in order to prevent the most common dental problems. Some patients may require more frequent visits depending on their particular needs, but for most, two is all that’s needed to consistently prevent tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more.

Do you have experience with children?

Yes! Dr. Christel has successfully treated young patients for years. She is comfortable with children in all stages of development. From infants to teenagers and beyond, if your child can smile, then she can offer everything they need right here in Salem at Cochell Family Dentistry!

When should my child have their very first dental appointment?

We agree with the recommendation of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry which state a child should be brought in for their first dental appointment within six months after their first tooth erupts but no later than the child's first birthday. At this appointment, we’ll mostly help your child acclimate to the dental office so they feel comfortable at future visits, and we will also perform a brief exam to make sure their teeth and mouth are developing correctly.

How should I replace my missing teeth?

While this answer will differ for each particular patient situation, goals and finances, in most cases, we would recommend someone get dental implants. While they are the standard of care for a missing tooth (as long as the requirements are met), other options such as bridges, partials and dentures may be good alternatives as well. Compared to every other treatment available today, dental implants offer the most natural-looking and longest-lasting results possible. Whether you are missing a single tooth or need a full denture, our dentist can use them to help you reclaim your complete smile for a lifetime!

Do you accept dental emergencies?

Yes! If you or a loved one are in need of urgent dental care, just give Cochell Family Dentistry a call, and we’ll see you as quickly as possible. We’re often able to provide same-day care for emergency patients.

Will you accept my insurance?

Yes! Cochell Family Dentistry is an “insurance friendly” dental office, and we are in-network providers with many of the most popular plans available. To learn how we can use your particular plan to help you at your next appointment, contact us today.

Is there a way I can finance my dental care?

Yes! We accept payment plans from CareCredit, a third-party financier that has already helped millions of people around the country more easily afford their dental care. To explore their different plans and even sign up for one, click on the button on our New Patients page.
